Every morning millions of people across China pour into parks and practice qigong and tai chi for health, healing, and longevity. Western research has confirmed what the Chinese have long known: these slow, graceful, low-impact movements reduce the effects of stress and aging, enhance immunity, lower blood pressure, increase circulation, promote vitality and build energy (qi). Qigong exercises increase flexibility, stamina, and balance while building muscle and bone strength.
Qigong harmonizes breath, movement and visualization to harmonize body, mind, and spirit. As “moving meditation,” qigong provides many of the same benefits as seated meditation: reduced stress, depression and anxiety; greater focus, concentration, insight and sense of well-being. The Chinese contend that qigong jump starts the body's own capacity for healing and empowers practitioners to take charge of their own health.
Medical Qigong, the most ancient branch of Chinese Medicine, can be used to improve general health and to address specific physical and emotional concerns. A routine of qigong exercises, meditations, and self-care acupressure can be tailored for individual circumstances and needs. Hypertension, joint problems, menopausal symptoms, diabetes, depression, digestive problems, sleep issues and weight concerns are among the many issues that can be addressed in this way.
Qigong is an excellent adjunct to western medical therapies and can also be used to recover balance and vitality after western treatment. Because Chinese Medicine is a body/mind/spirit medicine, the special physical movements of Qigong can help achieve a greater sense of balance, relaxation and well-being while they promote physical healing.
All qigong exercises can be adapted for physical limitations. Qigong is a practice for
people of all ages, levels of fitness, and physical capacities
